Disaster Prevention and Emergency Information
Preparations you can do right now to protect yourself from earthquakes (September)
A large earthquake occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28.
We never know when or where a major earthquake will happen. Take this opportunity to check your safety.
First, put copies of your residence card and passport, money, and any medications you regularly take into an emergency grab‑and‑go bag. Keep the bag near the entrance or another place where you can quickly take it with you. Next, make sure your home is safe. Secure your furniture to the walls so it won’t fall during an earthquake. Prepare at least three days’ worth of water and food. Check the evacuation sites near the places you spend time (home, workplace, school, etc.) and confirm a safe route to get there.
Talking with coworkers or friends about what to do during a disaster will give you even more peace of mind. For collecting disaster information, the Iga City disaster prevention app HAZARDON is also very useful.
