Watch out for flooding due to heavy rain! Driving a car is especially dangerous (October)
This summer, Japan suffered heavy damage from “record-breaking short-term heavy rain,” which brought a massive amount of rainfall in a short period. Have you ever seen “flooding” (where roads are filled with water) on the news or elsewhere? Driving a car through flooded areas is especially dangerous. If the tires are submerged about halfway, the engine may stop, or the car might float and get washed away. Underpasses (roads that pass beneath other roads or railways) collect water easily, so never enter them. During heavy rain, the safest choice is to avoid driving or going out unless necessary. If you feel you are in danger while driving,
please stop your car in a safe place and consider evacuating to a tall building.
